FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

A typical process for working with a new student is to complete a screening.  This screening will help me get to know the student.  Learning about each student affords me the opportunity to tailor lessons appropriate for a particular child's needs.  Finding what interests a child, of any age, will lead to engaging lessons that increase chances for success.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My education/training incudes completing a teacher preparation program at an accredited University.  I hold a Bachelor's of Science in the field of education K-6 Degree.  I have two years teaching experience with Kindergarten, and 5th-6th grade Science/Health at a Private Catholic Elementary. Another year teaching Pre-K, as well as seven years working as a para-educator at six different local School Districts. I am a certified Professional Tutor, Reading Tutor, and Academic Coach.

How did you get started teaching?

Teaching is a calling.  Knowing that I have always wanted to teach, allowed me to work in the education field with efficiency and enthusiasm.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have a broad range of experience which includes working with students on a variety of subjects in regular classrooms all the way to life skills students as a personal care assistant.  Students with varying needs/challenges have made significant progress under my guidance and instruction.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Working closely with Learning support and life skills, at the same time, together to reach each students goals.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

The advice I would give a student would be to make sure they are comfortable with the teacher or tutor they are hiring.  To describe their interests in order help make learning fun and engaging.  Getting to know the person who will be working with you, and their credentials, is very important for creating a successful learning environment.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

To be honest and comfortable with explaining their areas of need would be most important.  This allows the teacher to focus on those areas and better differentiate the lessons to meet those needs.
