About
Scribendi is a Latin word that means insatiable urge. It’s the perfect name for my editorial consulting business,
Cacoethes Scribendi
BY OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES SR.
If all the trees in all the woods were men;
And each and every blade of grass a pen;
If every leaf on every shrub and tree
Turned to a sheet of foolscap; every sea
Were changed to ink, and all earth's living tribes
Had nothing else to do but act as scribes,
And for ten thousand ages, day and night,
The human race should write, and write, and write,
Till all the pens and paper were used up,
And the huge inkstand was an empty cup,
Still would the scribblers clustered round its brink
Call for more pens, more paper, and more ink.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an insatiable urge to write. I’m a storyteller with an abiding curiosity about language and one of my greatest pleasures is making words sing off the page. As a writing tutor and editor, I’ll guide you in transforming your manuscript into a publishable work.
I’m a freelance research and fiction writer, editor, and writing tutor, documentary artist, and trainer, currently living and working in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wearing all these hats has taught me the value of communicating effectively, particularly through the practice of deep, mindful listening. I’ve found this skill to be invaluable as a writing tutor and editor. My students and clients notice too..
As a seasoned writing coach, I work with my students to identify their writing goals and guide them in developing the tools they need to achieve them. I closely read what they’ve written and find the best way to support them in overcoming their writing challenges. Many of my students quickly discover that my approach is highly individualized, since no two writers learn the same way. There’s nothing that excites me more than watching my students’ faces when they experience a precious ah-hah moment! I also bring years of research writing experience as a qualitative researcher, and documentary artist, so rigor is an important component of my coaching approach. Many of my students tell me that my passion about writing and teaching inspire them.
