Math Tutoring
About
Math is fun and reminds me of puzzles. I thoroughly enjoy problem solving and helping others. Currently I teach math to 46 students at a public elementary school so my schedule is evenings only unless someone requests a weekend. Also, I plan for my sessions the same way I plan for my actual lesson plans so I put a lot of though into it to make the session flow and fun. I don't believe in the standard, question by question tutoring sessions. I try to make the session more enjoyable and entertaining so it does not feel like a chore for the students.
I recognize that everyone is an individual so I like to meet my students ahead of time prior to an initial session to discuss what they need and want to work on. I take that information and plan for that specific individual on that specific topic. Also, I like to get to know the person I'm tutoring as a human being and as a learner so I can best service them.
I enjoy the subject. Math is a creative subject. I tend to think theoretically of how the subject truly represents that problem solving is important and that we're all capable of it. Aside from teaching life skills along with math skills, I enjoy helping others. Knowledge is the greatest gift to pass onto others.
I have gone to tutoring when I was at Penn State Universty and I have tutored several times over the years but the process of helping an individual never gets old. It is always intriguing to me how people solve things differently.
