I am a certified secondary English teacher with a master's degree as a K-12 Reading Specialist.
No one likes to do things they're not good at- this is no surprise. For me, that means I don't like to do things like long division, running, or swimming.
Unfortunately, for some students, this means reading.
There is nothing more rewarding, though, than being able to inspire a love of reading in my students. To see students go from resisting reading to finding a book they love is what makes my job worth it! My goal is to help student see reading and writing in a new light.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Upon first working with a student, I will spend time getting to know him/her and assessing his/her current reading level. Then, in conjunction with the parents/guardian, I will develop a set of tangible goals (both short and long term) and a plan of action to help the student achieve those goals. We will then spend each session working towards those goals while monitoring the student's progress and engagment. Periodically, we will have opportunity for student self-assessment and reassessment of the working goals.
