I am a doctoral student in clinical psychology and am avaliable for very flexible hours to help high school students write their college essays, prepare their applications, and provide advice for applying to college in general. I went to the University of Pennsylvania for my undergraduate degree and am now a doctoral student at La Salle University. I am very experienced in college essay topic brainstorming, writing, and editing. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I prefer an initial contact via email from the student or parent that is interested in tutoring. After this, we can schedule a meeting via Facetime, Skype, or at a local coffee shop to get to know each other and discuss the goals for tutoring. We can work on scheduling from there!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I went through the college application process myself and got into an Ivy League school. Since then, I have helped various high school students brainstorm essay topics, format their essay, and edit their writing. I have even helped students explore their interests and determine which colleges they should apply to based on various factors that are important to them in their decision. I am now a doctoral student at La Salle University for Clinical Psychology. I work with people everyday throughout my training as a therapist, so I am very personable and easy to talk to.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a flexible scale depending on financial need, however my average rate is about $35.00 an hour. We can work out various packages for multiple sessions or hours, if someone is looking for a more long-term tutor.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you are feeling lost or overwhelmed by the college application process, don't know where to start, or have some solid ideas but need further support and guidance, please contact me! I am available for flexible hours and have been through the process myself relatively recently.
