At Lamplight Learning we build confidence and success. All of our instructors are certified teachers and expert educators. We customize each tutoring sessions to meet the needs of the student to help build a strong foundation of the basic skills to help them excel at their own pace. All of our sessions are individual and based on the strengths and challenges the student has in that area. This allows us to help the student be effective as well as achieve progress quickly. All of our programs incorporate study skills, progress reports and an individualized program created for them. This allows us to help the students excel and achieve their academic and learning goals. Plus we make their experience fun and exciting! All of our tutoring is individualized.
We help students build confidence and feel that they can do it! Whether it's a math problem, reading assignment or writing a paper, we equip students with the skills they need to learn as well as the confidence they need to stick with it! It's the best feeling when a student who was once failing Math comes in and show's us their A+ or 100% on a math test!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We work with students Pre-k through 12th grade. In speaking with the parent I am able to get a sense of what the academic goals are as well as the areas/ subject that need to be supported. Many students come to us because they are falling behind, need to get ahead, stay ahead or need a challenge. For our basic reading and math programs we do a short assessment to help us identify the strengths and weakeness of the student. This allows us to create a program specifically for that student. To effectively build a strong foundation and fill in any gaps, this allows the student to excel at their own pace and achieve very quickly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our instructors are certified teachers and hold bachelors, masters a doctorate degree in their area of expertise. We only hire experienced educators who can help the student in their area of need, keep them engaged, give thoughtful and effective instruction and inspire them to keep trying!
We adhere to the common core standards and requirements of the Department of Education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We work in partnership to several different school districts that allows us to give student discounts, flexible payment plans and rates. Our goal is to make our services accessible to everyone. We also have flexible scheduling that is based on appointment, Monday- Saturday.
We do not have any contracts, we just ask that the tutoring session is paid in advance. Families can pay weekly, monthly or a flat amount. We also offer sibling discounts and referral specials.
How did you get started teaching?
My background and training is in international education and Spanish. I have worked in community education and public health for 15 years and as an educator for over 20 years. I love working with students young and old as well as educators who have the same love of teaching as I do. To me, Education is the best way to empower our youth and our communities for the future.
What types of students have you worked with?
Since we customize and modify everything we are able to work with students of all learning styles, goals, disabillities and needs. Our center focuses on students Pre-K through 12th grade.
We offer remedial tutoring, SAT/ACT test prep, College counseling, Kindergarten Readiness, writing, reading, math, algebra, geometry, study skills, spanish, mandarin, math and science camps and homework help.
