How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved to “play school” since I was a child. I tutored all through my highschool and college years to earn some extra money. My favorite part of teaching is figuring out the best way to explain a concept to my student and then waiting to hear them say, “oh, I understand now, I get It!” It’s the reward of seeing the “lights turn on in their brains” ..so to speak!!!
What types of students have you worked with?
Inner City and Suburbs- Public, private, online , homeschool - K-12 students in all subjects, however, my favorite subjects to tutor are math, reading, vocabulary, spelling, writing and STUDY SKILLS!!! All ages (3-75)
Students with Learning Disabilities- with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalcula.
College bound and gifted students who needed help preparing for college, studying for SAT/ACT test prep and scholarship writing.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My Digital SAT/ACT students were recently accepted in Westpoint, Purdue, Shippensburg, Liberty, Lebanon Valley, Bloomsbury, Cornell, Ithaca, Lock Haven, William & Mary, Pitt, Penn State!!!/p>
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is diversified, has experience, references, and you feel comfortable with.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I like to ask my students, “what have you done so far that has worked and what have you done to figure out your question on your own before coming to me?” I like to challenge my students to think about their future goals and imagine where they see themselves in ten years . (What field would they like to be working in?) Then we discuss how they might get there!!! It's always fascinating to hear what they say and then I challenge them to take ownership of their dreams and make an action plan to make their dreams come true...because I can't always be right with them but hopefully they will always remember that I believed in them and cheered them on to success!!! Hopefully by seeing the big picture they will understand the Importance of each of their classes.
