Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have an initial consultation and discuss your goals for the student who wants to be tutored. We then schedule our first appointment and start our first session of tutoring. Afterwards we discuss my findings and then I make recommendations on how I can help your student. If you choose to hire me as your educational consultant/tutor we schedule regular sessions to meet and work on the goals that were discussed in our initial meeting. After each session we discuss what happened at the session and review the homework that is expected to be completed by the next session. We typically meet twice a week for an hour each time (twice a week helps to establish some new study habits) and address the student's needs. The parents are expected to commit to a minimum of a month at a time to see progress. The test prep courses are over a period of time and are discussed thoroughly on my website.

How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved to play school since I was a child. As I became older I tutored all through highschool and college to earn some extra money. My favorite part of teaching has been the challenge that is presented to me to try to explain a concept to a student in such a way that they can truly understand it...and the reward to me is when I get to see the joy when my student finally understands the information and they can show me how they solved the problem!!!
What types of students have you worked with?
Inner City and Suburbs- Public, private, online , homeschool - K-12 students in all subjects, however, my favorite subjects to tutor are math, reading, vocabulary, spelling, writing and STUDY SKILLS!!! All ages (3-75)
Students with Learning Disabilities- with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalcula.
College bound and gifted students who needed help preparing for college, studying for SAT/ACT test prep and scholarship writing.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My SAT/ACT students were just accepted in Westpoint, Purdue, Shippensburg, Liberty, Lebanon Valley, Bloomsbury, Cornell, Pitt, Penn State!!!/p>
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is diversified, has experience, references, and you feel comfortable with that you respect their opinions in the best way to help your student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I like to ask my students, what have you done so far that has worked and what have you done to figure out your question on your own before coming to me. I like to challenge my students to look to their future and imagine where they will be in ten years and then I love our dialogue as we discuss how they might get there!!! It's always fascinating to hear what they say and then I challenge them to take ownership of their actions to make their dreams come true...because I can't always be right with them but hopefully they will always remember that I believed in them and cheered them on to success!!!
