Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Assess the student's needs and find places where they may be stuck. Develop a series of techniques to address the issue until I find something that sticks.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an MA in Philosophy. I have a BA in Film Studies with a minor in English.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$85/hour for in-person tutoring and test-prep work.
$65/hour for help with papers (college level).
$55/hour for help with papers (high school level).
$45/hour for online help (skype).
What types of students have you worked with?
Most of my students are college undergrads.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
Logic and Ethics are tricky, make sure you get someone who knows what they are talking about. For writing the bar can be lower.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
If you have a syllabus, bring it. If you have a core text you're struggling with, read it twice--all the way through--before contacting a tutor. If you have an assignment you need help with, make sure you bring your questions and materials to the meeting. The more you prepare in advance, the more help you can get for your money.
