About
I have a PhD in French from the University of Pennsylvania, Masters in French from Tulane University, and Bachelors in French, Italian, and International Development from Tulane University. I have tutored ages from middle school through college in English, French and writing. I taught university level French courses (intermediate French, literature and film, and reading for graduate students) for 6 semesters during my PhD program, directed an after school French program for 3 years and served a year as a teaching assistant in France for 6-12th grade.
My first goal in teaching is to help my students understand that learning is not possible without mistakes and to help them find their own strengths and passions that will encourage them to be dedicated and independent life-long learners. My greatest reward is watching my students grow, not just in skills but in self-confidence.
My greatest teachers were those who did not separate teaching and learning from humor, or creativity, or the larger (sometimes troubling) issues of life that shape our interactions and understanding. It is that model that I aim to emulate, and warmth, patience, humor, and energy are in turn the primary traits that define my own teaching.
