I reached out to Dr. Vincent Coll while taking AP Calculus when I found myself mired in confusion and beset by a lack of confidence in my mathematical abilities. Right from the onset, Dr. Coll exhibited remarkable patience, compassion, and an understanding that learning takes time. His authenticity, genuineness, and mutual respect that characterized our teacher-student relationship transformed the learning process and cultivated a sense of belonging in mathematics for me. He went above and beyond, dedicating extra time to ensure I understood the mathematical concepts at hand, whether it was through extended time without concern for the clock, a quick phone call, video response, or even a text message.

Dr. Coll also imparted diligence that went beyond mere memorization of seemingly trivial facts, like recalling the integrals of trigonometric functions. Through these seemingly small exercises, he instilled in me the value of recall and discipline towards the subject.

After conquering AP Calculus, I ventured into a year of university-level calculus, where I not only succeeded but felt empowered to take on the role of a Calc 1 Learning Assistant. Dr. Colls support didnt end there; he also offered valuable insights into how I could develop and apply statistical analysis in my research pursuits.
