About

The core of my work with students is building a safe, quality relationship that creates a foundation for academic success. I meet students where they are and work to scaffold, building steps, so each can reach higher levels of performance. In addition, I'm a strong believer in multiple approaches, knowing every student has an unique learning style. Being a part of a person's educational and life journey is a gift. I often hear from students from many years ago and this joy is simply irreplaceable.

I believe that I pointed that out in my response above, but I would reiterate relationship, success, meaningful learning...and I also enjoy the creativity involved in meeting individual needs.

I have taught first through fourth grade and currently teach a range of college courses. It proves to remind me that what individuals learn along the way has a far-reaching impact.

Ms. McKenzie was my 3rd grade teacher and I still have fond memories of being in her class. She was always supportive and kind, and would not only teach academic material but talk to us students about being kind to one another. The projects or homework she would assign to us was interesting and got me engaged in my school work. I would highly recommend In It Together Tutoring.

Brooke is an amazing teacher. She taught two of my kids and has had long-term impacts on both. She accepts each person for who they are and learns the best way to reach and connect with them.

Mrs. McKenzie honestly thought me how to learn in a fun way to remember, always there to help with just one on one time. Showed me there was nothing to difficult, she always kept it entertaining when learning subjects, always kept a smile. She believed in me when I didn’t think I could do it

Brook Mckenzie is the best, most compassionate, and enthusiastic teacher I have ever had! She’s thoughtful and really wants her students to learn the most. Mrs. Mckenzie is patient and dedicated to teaching her students in intriguing manners.

Mrs. McKenzie was the best teacher I ever had in school. I was a student of hers for two non-consecutive years and they were both fantastic. She taught me well, and treated all her students with respect. She had a passion for teaching and and love for her students befitting of the perfect teacher. I wasnt always the best student behaviorally, but she taught me better and seriously helped me when I goofed up. Mrs. McKenzie Is a fantastic teacher, and I am so thankful to have been one of her students.

By far my favorite teacher I have ever had. She is one that I will never forget. Always made sure every single one of her students are okay. Learning was always a joy in her class. I felt so close with her. I loved learning about her life with adoption and how much that changed her life. She has and will forever make an impact on my life!

Finding out what the student's goals and objectives are and how they'll know when they've reached these.

Introductory conversation or meet up to get a sense of the student and how they learn best.

Talk about my approach and ask them to consider if they feel we are a match.

Determine current performance levels and strengths of student.

Present a couple ideas for first session to gauge what resonates with the student.

Ongoing and honest/open communication throughout duration of working together so adjustments can be made as necessary.

    Provide excellent, quality, thoughtful service.

I hold a BA in Sociology and a MIT (master degree in teaching), numerous hours of professional development, well over 90 credits of continued education. I have worked with a wide range of curriculum materials, learned and utilized a plethora of teaching strategies. I have taught grades one through four [12 years as FT certified teacher], substitute teaching, working as an instructional assistant, mentored new teachers, and in my 6th year teaching college courses. I have worked with diverse groups of people, those learning an additional language, multiple levels of skill sets-and believe not just in equality but EQUITY.

I like to find out what the needs are before creating a price point. For example, weekly art tutoring could be material intensive and therefore my fee would take this into consideration. In addition, I would consider whether we will be online, if I travel or the student travels. There are multiple factors to consider. That being said, I have learned to value my ability and education level, as well as my experience- and this enters the equation as well.

With the current financial hardships I would take a certain number of students at a reduced rate.
