About

My students tell me that I’m great at explaining things in an understandable way, which if you’re looking for a tutor, is exactly what you need. Last year more than half of my students got 4s or 5s on their AP test— those results speak! I’m a pre-AP chemistry and AP environmental science teacher at a top-rated Oklahoma high school. I have excellent competency in math and science, and a degree in chemical engineering from a top 100 university to prove it.

My favorite moments are what I call the “Aha” moments— that point in time where a difficult concept finally clicks. I love finding new ways to teach something so that it finally makes sense.

Frequently asked questions

I start by asking the student what they understand or do not understand, coupled with some conceptual questions to confirm understanding. In areas where help is needed I review concepts first and then work through some examples with the student before asking the student to try a problem on their own.

When students reach an answer I will ask them to explain if that answer makes sense, to develop their ability to recognize their own mistakes. I will leave additional reading and practice problems of increasing difficulty, that we can review during the next lesson.

I have a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and am pursuing an Oklahoma teacher certification.

I do not have standard pricing.

I was taking a certification course in project management and asked enough to-the-point questions that the instructor offered me a job teaching adult certifications. My wife was a high school teacher at the time, and eventually they needed a science teacher on short notice when the previous one had to urgently relocate for family reasons. I stepped in and fit pretty quickly.

Our school is very diverse. I’ve worked with students in a variety of socioeconomic circumstances; I’ve also worked with students who have modifications for learning disabilities and English language learners.

Everyone learns differently; not all teachers will be right for every student. Look for a teacher that you understand and connect with. If you can’t understand why they are doing something you won’t understand how they do it either.
