Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I spend the first session goal setting and identifying problem areas. I feel students can achieve best when they have concrete goals. Additionally, identifying problem areas allows for tutoring that targets the most important topics. We then discuss the amount of time available to devote and come up with a plan including frequency of sessions and at-home work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I will be completing my Bachelor's degree in Biology with honors and a 4.0 at OU in May. I have taken the PSAT, ACT, SAT, and MCAT and scored above the 95th percentile on all. I work with children aged 4-12 over the summers and have worked as a peer tutor in high school and college, so I am comfortable working with children of all ages.
How did you get started teaching?
I love teaching others and have been peer tutoring since high school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience with a variety of types of learners, including those with ADD/ADHD.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Student should think about what they hope to achieve through tutoring and identify the obstacles to achieving those goals.
