Frequently asked questions

I start by getting to know the student, finding out what they like to do, their favorite things, etc.  I can tell quite a bit about their vocabulary by talking to them and asking them questions.  Then I start with some games that help me find out where their strengths and weaknesses lay and what process would be good to start with.

I am certified to teach children K-12 with mild to moderate disabilities.  I have a bachelors of science degree in elementary education and over 30+ hours in a masters program in human development and psychology.

I began teaching right out of college after growing up helping my grandmother with her classroom for 20 years.

I have worked with students from Kindergarden to college level in every subject area from reading to College Alegebra and everything in between.

As part of our recent ELA unit, we studied ice cream.  After researching how it was made and writing instructions on how to make ice cream in a bag we made ice cream outside on recess.  The students loved chosing their flavors, learning about how the rock salt works with the ice to help freeze the cream and then getting to sample their creations!  They were so proud of what they had made!

Try to find a teacher that loves everything about reading.  Learning to read or trying to get better at reading should be fun!

If you could close your eyes and change anything about yourself that would make learning fun and easier, what would it be?
