Stacy's Students
About
My passion is teaching students the skills they need to succeed in life in a way that is meaningful to them! We all learn differently and I want my students to take pride in their differences and view their education in a new light. I want them to leave tutoring with a better understanding of their strengths in school, an appreciation of themselves and a desire to succeed in their dreams. Oftentimes, understanding and appreciating our strengths can lead to a desire to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and make gains in areas we are struggling.
My goal is to make learning fun and interactive through play based learning, both online and in person. I have experience and knowledge tutoring students with specific learning disabilities as well as students that just need that extra push of encouragement. I want my students to view tutoring as "that fun thing I get to do" and I design each learning session individually to embody that ideal and meet the students interest.
I have taught in a variety of settings both online and in person. My area of expertise is focused on language arts (reading, writing, comprehension etc) for students up through 8th grade. I have specifically worked with students that may have a learning difficulty or disability. I love teaching and watching the joy cross a student's face when they realize they CAN do it! In my sessions, we place emphasis on our strengths while setting goals for ourselves and reaching those goals.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will begin by speaking with the parents/guardians as well as review recent student work to determine the areas that the student needs assistance with. Light, informal assessments may also be utilized as necessary.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a certified teacher in Special Education for Mild/Moderate disabilities from pre-k through 8th grade. My focus is often in reading, comprehension, spelling and writing. However, I have taught K-5th grade math as well as other core subjects such as science and social studies.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Homeschooling online consulting services: $15-20 per 45 min session.
How did you get started teaching?
I began my teaching career all the way back in high school. I worked in my mom's classroom with students with learning difficulties and volunteered in the moderate/severe PE classroom for students with special needs. I volunteered at church camps, after-school tutoring and just about anything I could do that involved kids and education! My formal education career began as a para-professional in a public school. That eventually led to becoming certified through the state in Special Education and I am in a continuing education program taking master level classes in order to renew my certificate as needed. I have taught my own children (12+ years of homeschooling experience) as well as taught at an online public school. I love teaching and am excited to help you in whichever way you might need!
What types of students have you worked with?
-Students with a variety of learning disabilities
-Students with behavior disabilities/learning disabilities
-Pre-K through 8th grade
-Students who need extra help with phonemic awareness, handwriting skills and spelling.
-Students who need assistance understanding mathematical concepts. Typically the students I have worked with need the most guidance when it comes to word problems, mathematical reasoning and understanding real-life math in a way that they can retain past the "test".
