About

Hi, I'm Andrew, and I welcome the opportunity to help you learn English, Writing, Literature, or any of my other areas of expertise. I've earned three degrees in literature (B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.). I have taught rhetoric and literature courses for high school students, including distance learning. At the university, I taught for five years, including two years of writing and literature; and at the end of my final writing class, the students gave me a standing ovation! During this time I earned an award for Excellence in Teaching, a Graduate Teaching Fellowship, and a "Striving for Excellence in Teaching" certificate. I have also served as an editor in academic publishing for ten years, helping authors develop and refine their writing in fields ranging from philosophy to political science.

My approach to teaching anything focuses on harnessing the power of self-improvement—after all, the day will come when you no longer have a tutor or teacher to assist you. My goal is to prepare you for that day. Innovation and flexibility are key for this approach, and both are firmly on my keyring. As a graduate instructor, I created, tested, and refined a writing curriculum that was adopted in my university's writing program. I've also led smaller groups of students in sessions and courses, including one-on-one tutoring, in various ways for over a decade. From lecturing groups of writers about getting published to tutoring a pair of college administrators in Italian, I've developed a sophisticated toolkit of techniques to help *you* attain your particular learning goals.

During tutoring sessions, you will find me to be empathetic and warm. In a relaxed and flexible learning environment, I employ a combination of intuition and logical analysis to work with you to find unique, creative educational solutions that help you reach your goals.
