About
As a professional research chemist, I approach tutoring from a different perspective than many teachers might, and compliment their teaching style rather than sticking to the same technique or format.
I enjoy helping people to succeed, hearing and seeing their satisfaction with their progress and results.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by assessing the student's level of understanding, both of current material and things they should know in order to learn the new subject matter. I then ask questions to assist them in their learning process, to get the students to think things through themselves.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS in chemistry and a Ph.Dh in Polymer Science. At one time I was a high school substitute teacher in chemistry and have tutored in the past.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35/hr
How did you get started teaching?
I was approached by the chemistry teacher of a local high school and asked if I would be willing to fill in for him when his union duties required him to be away from the school. We would review lesson plans the day before and I would teach his classes. Students very much appreciated my teaching style
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students in high school and introductory levels in college, e.g., organic chemistry.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am fond of would be hearing the excitement in a student's voice, a student that I was tutoring, who just beat the class average on the first test taken after we began to work together.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It is not enough for the person to understand the material, he/she has to be able to put it in terms that are meaningful and helpful to the student, both to understand it and remember it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about their goals and time constraints, how much time are they spending at home and how much time can they devote to tutoring sessions, how often they would like the sessions (regularly or as their specific needs arise), how much time per session; They should also ask themselves how many lessons they would like to have in order for them to see an improvement in their grades.
