About

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the third grade. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Education from Baldwin Wallace University in 2005 with a specialization in Prek-3. I graduated at the top of my class with the highest marks for my in-class work with students.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is figuring out how the student's brain works and tailoring learning to their strengths. Every student is intelligent, and each learns in a different way, which makes me keep up on how to teach in different ways - that keeps my passion for teaching alive and well!

I can't wait to meet students on an individual level and find out their most dominant intelligence, using that to help them unlock the key to their greatest potential.

I am available by Zoom evenings: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (by appt only).

Michelle was so great! Absolutely recommend! My son started tutoring hating reading and dreading the work but with Michelle he learned that reading can be fun and he enjoyed his time with her so much he couldn’t make it through his last session because he was so upset to be graduating from tutoring. He loved having Michelle as a tutor and had so much improvement.

My kids have been taking her lessons for almost two years. Initially, their English levels were beginner, but thanks to Michelles fun and engaging teaching style, they have made tremendous progress. She works tirelessly and knows how to make learning English an enjoyable experience. I assure you, you can trust her completely!

Frequently asked questions

My preferred process would be to meet with them either one-on-one or with a parent so that we can make sure that both parties feel like it would be a good fit.  I like to interview the student to see what they like/don't like, what their type of intelligence is, their personality type, what they excel at and why, and other questions to get a solid foundation for approaching their learning process.

1.  I have a Bachelor's in education

2. I did 1.5 years of in-class training for kindergarteners and 1st graders

3. I taught Pre-K for several years

4. I have been a substitute teacher in many different settings

5.  I have privately tutored older, younger and differently-abled students to help them succeed.

I became interested in teaching when volunteering to help special education students learn to read in the 3rd grade. It made such a lasting impression on me, and I knew that's what I wanted to do!

As I have gotten older, I keep learning, so I never forget what it feels like for students to learn - struggle with a concept, feel less than confident with new tasks, and more - so I can empathize with them!

I have worked with students aged 3 all the way up to 5th and 6th grade.  I have experience tutoring high school students in beginner's Italian, English/Language Arts, and other subjects.  (The only subject I have yet to accomplish is math)  Both typical and atypical students.  I have tutored adults as well.

We recently adopted a puppy!  She is a Beagle/Jack Russel Terrier mix (called a Jack-a-bee), her name is Penny and she loves to play!

Whoever you decide to hire as your tutor, make sure that they work well with you, they are kind and understanding, and they don't view tutoring/teaching as simply a 'job'.

It's not a question but...BE HONEST about what you need, what you do/don't understand, and what you are going through as a student. Don't be embarrassed, that's what the tutor is there for! We just want to help 💕
