About

I accept where a student is on the "math understanding" continuum and go from there with the student. My objective is to help a student reach his/her math goals by helping the student take ownership of concepts. This way the student is better prepared to take the tests.

I thoroughly enjoy helping a student feel comfortable with working math problems and helping a student succeed in the subject of math. Working through logical thinking is a precursor to making life a little easier for a person.

    • I attend Bishop Watterson High School. I didn’t feel as though the Algebra teacher was going at a pace I could understand. Bonnie was recommended to my mom by a professor at Columbus State. At first, I was nervous and worried because I didn’t think I could follow along and I’m a shy person. But when I started with Bonnie, she made me feel comfortable and she got straight to the point. The first time she worked with me, she explained everything patiently, and she found different ways to help me understand. I felt as though she was willing to adapt to help me learn what I needed to learn. The online tutoring was more convenient, and it worked well into my schedule, and it saved me time in going back and forth to tutoring. The program she uses is easy and it made it easy for us to share screens. I liked online tutoring more than I thought I would.

My name is Judy Ironbow. I am a current undergrad student at Columbus State Community Colledge. I am taking Math 1122 Quantitative Reasoning for Spring Semester. My math teacher suggested Bonnie for tutoring and said she was really good. She was my first choice when I needed help with homework. She is helpful, kind, and real. Also I feel she goes above and beyond for her students work. I feel she has really helped me grow in my critical thinking skills. I highly recommend her for tutoring!

    Frequently asked questions

I ask the student what they understand about the problem.  Based on the response, I start filling in the holes through open-ended questions.  This might require going back to the learning the student does understand and build from there.  Ultimately, I show the student how to work the problem in steps, we then work another problem together, followed by working parallel and ultimately the student does a problem by him/herself.  This leads to self-confidence in mastering the work.

I have a degree in education where my favorite subject was how students learn. I have 20 years of teaching/tutoring math where I put these theories into practice and they work!!!

I like to charge anywhere between $20 - $25 per hour.  It depends on whether the student needs ongoing tutoring or just a one-time meeting.  If it's ongoing, then I might even charge less.
