Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually try to get a good idea of what they do understand and what method works for them. Sometimes they have specific questions, sometimes they just know that they don't know. Then I proceed from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in economics from Cedarville University. In addition to economics, I took several classes related to computer science, statistics, and law. I have been tutoring since 2019.
How did you get started teaching?
My intermediate microeconomics professor recommended me as a tutor when my peer was struggling in class.
I have been told several times by my friends that I'm good at taking complicated topics and explaining them in simple, understandable ways.
Now I've created a tutors.com profile because I want some additional income while I start a business.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked primarily with college students, but I also have experience teaching middle school and high school kids how to code.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In 2021, I wrote an app that helps students keep track of their assignments. The app was recently accepted as a senior design project at Cedarville University, and I just got to meet my team! I'm very excited to see what happens next.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pick one who knows what they're talking about but also knows how to work well with people. If you wouldn't want to trade test scores with him or her, don't hire him or her!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you've already done to try to understand the material. If you haven't done anything, you might not even need a tutor.
