Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know my students by learning more about their strengths and weaknesses, and then I build on those. I think it's crucial to know exactly what kind of learner my students are and how they learn best -everyone is different and have different learning styles. This is how I can learn how to best help them succeed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Secondary Education, with my license in Integrated Language Arts, 7-12. I've worked for Akron Public Schools for several years.
I'm also very tech savvy, which greatly helped me as a remote teacher in 2020. That year we went remote also allowed me to learn and improve on skills that I hadn't had the opportunity to use up to that point.
How did you get started teaching?
I've always known I wanted to be a teacher, since I was a young girl. I would play "school" in my room with my stuffed animals. Teaching and the English language have always been a passion of mine. I was once told by my 8th grade Language Arts teacher to "become a language arts teacher"- that's what she wrote in my yearbook. I'll never forget that.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all ages and grade levels, all skill levels and abilities. I've assisted at risk students and students who are lower level. I've also worked with higher level, accelerated students who preferred challenges and needed that type of extra support.
