I have been a college professor for ten years and am well informed of the expectations of students at the college level.
I enjoy watching students improve and become more confident in their reading and writing skills. Many students don't like reading and writing for various reasons, mainly because they think they're not good at it. Identifying strengths and weaknesses helps me help students create an academic plan to raise awareness, understanding, and self-confidence. This process often results in improved reading and writing skills.

Meet with a tutor/teacher in person to see if there's a good fit. Ulitmately, if you are not comfortable with a teacher, you will be less receptive to learning.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Before speaking with a tutor, be honest with yourself about your abilities and needs. While this can be an unpleasant experience, it will be worth it.
