Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I prefer to work with students that are also self starters that are working to improve their work continuously, not afraid for failing, and willing to work diligently on honing their craft.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In August in 2009 I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education, while completing the program I obtained my teaching license from The Ohio Department of Education in age group 4-12. Recently, I completed my Masters of Education in Computer Education and Technology at Ohio University, and I currently serve as both a Technology Education Instructor and a Building Technology Coordinator in the South Western City School District, at Grove City High School. I have completed a variety of courses while pursuing both degrees that have provided me with a significant understanding of child development and pedagogy. While working in middle school, high school classrooms, and conducting Professional Development with staff, I have had the opportunity to observe a variety of teaching styles and to teach in schools with widely varying curricula and philosophies.
During my student teaching quarters, I worked with students of all ability levels while helping them to meet the Ohio Standards in Technology Education Content, and also with other content areas, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). My academic background thoroughly augments my student teaching experience, giving me a high level of confidence in my ability to teach students in various grades. In the last three years, my experience as a teacher I have gained insight into my approach to teaching and how it can affect student’s achievement. I have found that when students take more ownership in the work created they are more likely to place a high value in the project or assignments. During the last two years as a Building Technology Coordinator, I have aided in the coordinating the training of staff members on technology that can be used to enhance student understanding of material presented in the classroom, and to liaison between staff members and district office.
