JCU Grad English Tutor
About
I'm excited bye working with students age 5- through 12, and will give you the skills you need to succeed on developing certain structure, phrases, and tenses, and creative conceptualization.
Getting to know you is the most important thing to me!
What do you like to do? Do you play video games? If you do, which one is your favorite? What types of books do you like to read? What are your talents? (You have them even if you haven't discovered what they are yet!)
Answering some of these questions helps me design a program that is tailored to your teaching and our time together. I want to make it the best experience for you!
I've tutored for over five years, and have my students' best interests in mind each and every time. Once I get to know them, the challenges they are facing, I am able to construct a lesson plan that will work for them, one that will achieve success in learning both basic and advanced concepts of English.
I have been a résumé writer for over 10 years and have worked in Communications for over 20 years. I was employed as a Communications Director for a non-profit organization in Chardon, OH, and independently owned and operated a Communications firm for over 15 years to assist startup and existing companies with print, broadcast and social media needs.
I have extensive study in both English and British literature, graduating with a BA with Honors in English Studies and Communications. I also hold a dual minor in Art History/Humanities.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking them questions about their interests, things they find fun, any shows they like to watch. Then I actively listen. These first few minutes give me great perspective on how to approach them with learning. Each student is different, and an individualized program based upon things that excite and engage them will help them to learn more effectively.
I then have a private conversation with the parent to determine which subjects/areas of learning, the student struggles with the most. I will ask about any feedback or comments they consistently hear from teachers. This information is especially important. It helps me to target those areas specifically in the curriculum.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have privately tutored elementary and high school students in English, Math, Reading Comprehension, and Science.
I graduated from John Carroll University with High Honors and a degree in English. I have worked as a Copywriter for a major insurance firm, created detailed written digital content and communications plans for online businesses, and crafted expert articles and reports as a Communications Director for a large non-profit. I’ve also privately tutored elementary students and have significant expertise reviewing and revising resumes that have resulted in successful job placement.
