Hi! I’m Katrina, 33 years old. I currently live in Mexico City but am originally from NY. I earned my MFA in Creative Writing from the University of New Orleans and my BA in Film from CUNY Brooklyn College. I LOVE traveling, nature, baking, music, books, movies, writing, the ocean, and animals. In total, I’ve been teaching English for over 6 years.
I have 4+ years of private one-on-one tutoring experience. I also spent 2.5 years in New Orleans as a TA college English instructor, where I taught essay writing, argumentative writing, and basic English composition to undergraduate first-year students.
I'm a huge advocate of one-on-one learning, not only to solidify what's been taught in the classroom, but to create new study habits, learn vocabulary words, review testing techniques, explore creative writing skills, & nurture creativity.
My teaching style centers on empowerment. My past students who’ve struggled with reading and writing often began with negative self-talk, like “I’m just bad at this”, “I’m not creative”, or—worst of all—“I’m not smart.” While it broke my heart to hear these things, it is an incredible gift to see those same students realize, usually much quicker than they expected, that they ARE creative, they ARE smart, they ARE good at this. It just takes the right teacher!
