About
I have been working as a teacher for 16+ years and I love it! What I love best is connecting with my students and helping them to connect with the learning. I love watching my students discover they can do and understand things that previously were a challenge. I love learning and find all things in life so fascinating! I love to bring that enthusiasm to my lessons and share it with my students. My goal is to help my students learn more about how they learn so that they can become independent, life-long learners! I have worked extensively with students who struggle due to specific learning differences. I believe all students can learn, and I believe this for them until they can believe it for themselves. I have learned many different approaches for making contact accessible to all types of learners. Whether I am working with a student who is at the top of the class and creating challenges to take them further, or I am working with students who are struggling in reading, writing, and mathematics, I have strategies and methods that meet each need. I individualize my lessons to each student based on their strengths and needs.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start a new tutoring relationship with an intake process that involves getting to know some general background of the student. Mostly this time is also about relationship building. I like to learn what the student likes or doesn't, what interests, sports, or hobbies the student has and enjoys. Depending on the goal of the tutoring, I will gather some diagnostic information about current strengths. I like to start where the student has strengths and feels confident and then build up into the challenges. This has always been an effective approach as it develops a growth mindset in the student and they learn early on to feel good about the lessons. This makes them want to come back for more help.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
