About

I am an experienced teacher who has worked at mostly the middle school level. I have taught students from a range of different backgrounds and strengths in both Nashville and New York City schools. Tutoring was an important part of the schools I have taught at, so I have been both teaching and tutoring for over 5 years. Through tutoring and my teaching practices, most of my students saw growth from the first trimester exam to the last. I pride myself on keeping students engaged and excited about learning!

I love helping students improve and feel more confident in their ability in a certain subject(s). I have found that through tutoring students have the safe space to ask questions and fall in love with content they might not have enjoyed in a large classroom setting. There is nothing better than the "lightbulb moment" that a student experiences when they grasp a challenging concept and are able to grapple with it through a tutoring session.

Frequently asked questions

First, it is important to me to get to know my student. I learn about their passions, hobbies, challenges and strengths both inside and outside of the classroom. I use the relationship I have with the student to drive my instruction and assistance. I first pinpoint common misunderstandings I am seeing the student making in the subject(s) and use open ended questionig to narrow down why the mistake is being made. After getting to know the student and identifying where the problem lies, I come up with a plan for closing any gaps that might exist.

I have taught middle school Math in both Nashville and New York City where I was a full time teacher with frequent after school tutoring sessions. I come from a Political Science/Psychology background from the University of Georgia, so I am well rounded in all subjects. I earned my Masters degree in Education from Relay Graduate School of Education where I learned and honed my tutoring skiils.

My pricing will vary dependign on a case by case basis for the tutoring session, but because of experience and certiifcation I will typically start at $40-50 an hour.

I discovered a passion for teaching my senior year of college when I was deciding which law school I wanted to attend. I was working in local elementary and middle schools as a tutor and knew this was my calling. I was accepted to Nashville Teaching Fellows where I underwent a rigorous 3 month training to be prepared for the classroom.

I have worked with students of all backgrounds and abilities and most all ages.
