I prepare students for the SAT Reading and Writing - Language sections. Not only do I provide practice, but I also teach mini lessons for grammar, language and comprehension points you may need to review. My goal is to see each of my students achieve improved scores.

I also instruct students in English Language Arts: Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking.

I have students who need additional support as well as those who want to excel by supplementing their traditional classwork (elementary grades through high school and homeschooled students).

I have been teaching for more than twenty years with a certification in Reading K-12 and Elementary Education.

I also taught Literacy Education classes at Adelphi University as an adjunct professor.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

It’s important to assess what the student’s strengths and weaknesses are in order to determine what skills may need emphasis. We always begin with a short sample text in both Reading and Writing-Language for this purpose. In addition, parent/s and student are welcome to share opinions about expectations and areas that need improvement.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a strong background in English, ELA, and SAT instruction and have been teaching for more than 20 years with great success. I most enjoy seeing the progress that my students make as they enhance their skills and and achieve their individual learning goals.

How did you get started teaching?

It was my dream job and I haven’t ever wanted to do anything else.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have taught in NYC Schools and in several Long Island school districts. My students currently include regular education students, remedial students (elementary through high school) and college students (NYS Teacher Certification preparation).

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I very much appreciate the Thank You cards I receive from my students.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Be open to learning new strategies and methods from an experienced teacher in the subject area(s) you select.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Some thoughts may include: (depending on grade level) 1. What are my strengths? What can I do well? What skills help me to well? 2. What type of assignment is more difficult for me? What skills are needed for me to complete this work? Can I use the skills I have to help me with this work? 3. Can the skill or assignment be modeled so that I can see what is expected?
