We are a couple with different English language skills from intermediate to advanced. We can highly recommend Dana as a teacher of American English. She helps us with grammar, pronunciation, and improving the fluency of our conversation. She patiently answers all of our questions and explains our doubts. We can always count on Danas enthusiasm and good mood.

It is my pleasure to write this review for Dana. I am really glad that in my search I met Dana. I really appreciate the multiple positive characteristics that Dana has such as punctuality and positive demeanor. My daughters are always looking forward to having class with Dana and they really like the way she teaches and communicates with them. Dana is very punctual in giving their assignments and making sure that students understand the covered material. She takes into account my concerns and accommodates her teaching based on priorities discussed. Dana regularly gives feedback and keeps me informed about progress that my daughters are making. I will definitely recommend Dana as a tutor.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
There are 4 easy steps!
FIRST, please fill out my short interest form to receive a FREE reading assessment (or ESL assessment) for your child. The form will allow me to collect basic information about you and your child, their challenges/needs, and availability.
SECOND, I will send you a link to schedule the free reading assessment that includes a free, optional dyslexia screening to determine if that may be a contributing factor to your child's reading challenges.
THIRD, right after the assessment, we will have a brief conversation to discuss your child's assessment results, their goals, and any questions you may have. We will then decide on your child's ongoing schedule for tutoring sessions.
FOURTH, as we continue with tutoring, I will do quarterly assessments to determine your child's level of improvement and will communicate their progress to you along the way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed NYS teacher of general and special education. I have a TEFL/TESOL certification in Business English, General English, and English for Young Learners.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private lessons are $70 for a full hour of instruction ; $35 for a 30 minute lesson.
For group lessons, the rate for each student is considerably lower than private lessons depending on the number of students (usually 3-4 per group). Please inquire within.
How did you get started teaching?
I began as a reading tutor when I was 13 years old. In 2010, I began teaching professionally. In 2014, I began teaching grade 2 in a charter school before I started working with special education students in a private school for children in grades K-8 (ages 5- 14).
What types of students have you worked with?
General and special education students as well as ESL students online (both children and adults).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a credentialed teacher that is not only qualified to teach you or your child, but that is also passionate about said area of teaching. Be sure to choose someone whom you or your child feel comfortable with and who you feel truly cares for you or your child's success.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Consider the following:
1. What are my or my child's exact areas of concern?
2. Am I able to fit tutoring into my/our schedule so that I/we can commit to consistency?
3. How dedicated am I when it comes to getting extra help for myself or my child?
