About
I’m Jay and I am a current student at CUNY Queens College who majors in Art Education. I have already gone through the fingerprinting process and am on my way to officially being certified. I am currently taking various education and art courses. Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine since I was young and will continue on to make that dream true. I truly want to teach art because I am an artist and love interacting with those who want to learn more about visual arts.
All throughout my middle school and high school years, I always took the time to help my fellow students and friends with their homework. I mostly helped with math since it was my best subject. My math teachers over the years have told me that I have a unique understanding of the concepts and they took advantage of that by having me work with other students who were having trouble. The concepts of math that I feel are the best for me are elementary level math, prealgebra and algebra.
I hope to help students either continue with their passion for art, find some inspiration, or learn something new. I believe creativity is in everyone and it just has to be found. For my future math students, I hope to help you understand anything you have been having trouble with or to finally achieve a grade you want.
I enjoy sharing my love for art and seeing students use art as a creative outlet like I do.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I plan on discussing and working with the student on what their goals are and what they hope to achieve. I’ll ask if they just want help with home work assignments or want help with the subject with out having some sort of assignment to bring in ( or both). I will also try to get to know the student. For example, I’ll try to get to know their personality and what learning style is best for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Being an Art Education Major at CUNY Queens College who has already started the certification process, I feel that this qualifies me as a tutor. I also feel my many education courses, and personal experiences have taught me what I need to achieve goals and work with students. I have completed all certification workshops and got fingerprinted by the DOE as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I’ll do $20 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I am currently getting certified and I am a current student teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
Currently, I have worked with family members, friends and students ranging from 1st grade through high school.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently I have been involved with running a club on campus and running virtual events.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I say, look for someone who seems to care and enjoy the subject. No matter the level or years of teaching the subject, I believe that if the teacher truly wants to teach the subject and has gone out of their way to learn about the subject, they are the one for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what will be best for them and what they think will be most helpful for them. After all, the teacher is there for them and to make their learning experience as enjoyable as possible.
