English Language & Literature, Writing, & Reading Tutor
About
I am an editor, writer, and educator with five years of experience teaching college level writing and fiction, as well as English language to high school students from all over the world. I specialize in helping students develop their writing and reading skills, and as a fiction writer myself, have a strong passion for encouraging creativity.
As an editor and tutor I have helped dozens of clients with their college and graduate school application essays (all of whom have been successful in getting into the schools of their choice)!
I have a BA in English Honors from Boston College and a Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from the University of Wyoming. Prior to graduate school, I worked as a journalst and editor in New York where I worked and wrote for a number of publications, including New York Magazine and The Atlantic. After graduate school I began teaching and currently teach English Language and work in the Writing Center at a private high school in Massachusetts.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to hear from the student first: what his or her needs are, what the student believes his or her weaknesses and strengths to be. We will then set realistic goals together and work towards them at a steady pace. I want students not to feel overwhelmed or defeated by the need to seek to extra help, but empowered by their commitment to improving their skills. I am a huge believer in intellectual diversity and find that students who seem to be struggling in a certain area, whether in reading or essay writing, also struggle with confidence, and I know if I can build up their confidence, success will always follow!
With students needing help with college essays, I spend a lot of time helping them figure out how to tell a personal, compelling story that showcases their uniqueness, while also demonstrating their suitability for a particular insitution. We then work through several drafts until the essay is polished and the student is proud!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have extensive experience as a classroom teacher, writing center tutor, editor, and writer. I have worked with students primarily at the high school and college level, but also feel comfortable working with adults and younger students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who is willing to take the time to get to know you as an individual!
