About

I usually provide resources for a student, so if they come without any material that is completely okay. Moreover, I have TA'd in the past for my particular specialty area, therefore I have a good command of the material but more importantly, I've been in the same position as the student. I too have dealt with the same frustrations of learning something new, which I believe enables me to relate more to the issues that a student faces.

The most enjoyable part of the process of learning is the moment when an idea connects with the person I am teaching. That moment is fulfilling for both me as a tutor and the learner.

Frequently asked questions

Since I specialize in Math, I can only really speak at length about that subject. That said, the approach I take is to work through computations so that students are comfortable and gain confidence. Then I tend to follow up by explaining the theory, which would make more sense to the student after gaining exposure via examples.

I am a fourth-year Mathematics major at the University of Rochester. I held a position as a Teachers' Assistant before for a math course, which is involves tutoring as a part of the job.

My typical standard is $13.00/hour.

Informally I began teaching when I was working with colleagues and I enjoyed exposition as much as research and collaboration. Then when I became a TA, is when I formally began to teach, and I have enjoyed doing it ever since.

I have mainly worked with college students that come from various majors since I have only TA'd for introductory courses.

The most important advice when looking for a mathematics tutor would be someone who is kind and patient. Mathematics, unlike the other disciplines, takes some time to process, whether it be a Theorem, a definition, or what have you, all of these things take time and do not come overnight. Moreover, math is not always natural and so it's necessary to have someone sympathetic towards your learning.
