About

When I was a middle school and early high school student, my grades, writing, and academic abilities were far below average. Many of my teachers thought of me as an unpromising student. Since then, however, I found a passion for academics, molding myself from a D student into one with straight As and a 4.0 college GPA. I still remember, though, how it felt to struggle with school when it seemed nobody had any faith in my potential to succeed. Having walked that path myself, I can offer unique support to “underachieving” students, assisting them with their academic needs while encouraging them to find their own voice and build confidence.

My services focus on students between grades 6 and 12 who want help learning class content, developing critical analysis skills, and improving their writing. I am someone who will work with you to hone your skills and bring your voice and style into your work. What I want to do is help you flourish and gain confidence in yourself: that is what I offer.

I have a passion for helping other people unlock their potential to think creatively and critically. Most students are taught to carefully follow constructed guidelines for what an essay should look like (i.e. an essay must have an intro, three body paragraphs, and a closing paragraph). This is a fine starting point but good writing requires more than that; passion, excitement, and planning are necessary to make someone's writing quality truly outstanding. Because of the way so many are taught, writing comes off as boring and cumbersome, rather than engaging. This deters writers from putting effort into their work and turns them off of intellectual pursuits generally, neither of which outcomes contributes to healthy, robust minds. Better writers and thinkers, though, contribute to the creation of a better world. Thus, as someone committed to that world, I encourage students to both format their work and find enthusiasm for it so that they not only write well but enjoy doing so.
