About
I work with students to meet them partway in their learning--to understand their learning styles, and how to make the topics and subjects being studied interesting and engaging to them. Whether that is having a creative student learn math by designing a Halloween costume, or encouraging a tech-minded student to write about their love for cars, I give each student a personalized approach.
I also believe that helping students put the standardized tests and college application process into proper context makes them more successful students and helps the learning process.
I love seeing students realize their own potential and achieve their goals.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start by getting to know the student and their goals for tutoring--what do they want to get out of our work? From there I work with them to identify their strengths, then figure out how we can use those strengths to address the areas they are struggling with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I especially enjoy working with students on writing and on college and graduate school applications. I received my English degree with Honors, and double majored in Fine Arts. I have several years of experience as a professional editor in a variety of publication formats.
For test preparation tutoring I focus primarily on the LSAT and SAT. I am a licensed attorney who scored in the 94th percentile on the LSAT, and I was a National Merit Finalist for the PSAT/SAT and scored in the top percentiles.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is $40/hr for a single student, $60/hr for two students. If students want to purchase a pack of lessons up front it is
I also review and provide suggestions for edits and improvement on college application essays and other written projects. For a review of essays and applications with detailed comments, pricing starts at $25 and increases based on project length. Please note I DO NOT write essays for students--I provide editorial feedback and suggestions, but the students must create the written work themselves.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been tutoring for as long as I can remember, first helping my younger siblings with their school work, then tutoring during and after college. In law school, I taught research methods to other law students and was involved in community workshops and training.
I paused for a time after law school, but I enjoy helping people blossom in their writing and achieve their academic and professional goals, so I returned to tutoring and teaching to fulfill that need.

I have worked with high school students, college students, college graduates, and grad students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently wrote my first Table Top Role Playing Game scenario and was able to run it for a D&D group. It was a new type of writing and I fell in love, and am currently working on polishing it for publication.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pay attention to whether the teacher/tutor listens to you--teaching is best when the teacher and student work together and the student learns in the ways that work best for them. Teachers have to listen to their students to understand the why and how of how their students learn.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest with yourself about how much effort and work you want to give to learning, because teaching is only as successful as the student's interest and desire. There is nothing wrong with deciding a particular path isn't right for you. If you do want to pursue a given path, be honest with yourself about the time and effort you truly have to spare.
