Tutoring By Angela Scorese

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College of Columbia University with a Bachelor's degree in Music and a Minor in Spanish. Among my most rewarding experiences in college was sharing my passion for my favorite areas of study with my fellow students as a Peer-to-Peer tutor, along getting to write at (great) length about those subjects. Our peer tutoring program trained me to formulate creative suggestions and questions in lessons that would allow my students to arrive at the answer on their own and consequently retain the information better. My goal is to improve students' comprehension and ability to apply the concepts while finding ways to spark their interest in the material. I find this approach to be most successful when tailored to the needs and strengths of each student, which is why I make every effort to get to know my students as individuals and establish rewarding, productive relationships with each.

In my senior year of college I was a Peer-to-Peer tutor for Music Theory, where I regularly met one-on-one with students to answer their questions on difficult concepts and help them figure out how to apply those concepts to practice assignments. I also ran a review room during final exam period, where I reinforced the material through practice questions and offered feedback on assignments where permitted. Outside of this program, I have experience reading and offering comments on my fellow students' writing assignments, as well as evaluating student work in my three years as an Environmental Science Teacher's Assistant.

Qualifications/Details:

-Spanish Minor in college, fluent, studied abroad in Córdoba (Spain) with Middlebury Schools Abroad, Scored 6 on International Baccalaureate Spanish Higher Level Exam, scored over 700 on SAT II Spanish Exam

-Scored 800 in Writing on SAT (twice), recipient of Ethel Stone Le Frak Prize for Music Writing in college

-Tutored Music Theory in college, maintained A average in Music Theory and Ear Training over 4 years of college, currently employed part-time as professional singer and section leader involving extensive sight-singing regularly, studied voice for 10+ years (Opera, Classical, Broadway), recipient of various awards for singing, performed variety of leading opera roles
