Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by evaulating the level of understanding my student has already. Depending on this evaluation I determine which areas they need the most help in. Then we set up a schedule to help them become fluent in Spanish.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I grew up in Venezuela so Spanish is my first language. I studied in Pedagogico de Caracas (a college in Venezuela). I worked as an elementary school teacher and I truly love to teach. I have been living in the United States for 31 years and love helping people in the United States to learn how beautiful a language Spanish is.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I work with a package system. You can take up to 3 indidvidual lessons. Then we will work through a package.
1 = 40
5 = 195 (39-lesson)
10 = 380 (38-lesson)
15 = 555 (37-lesson)
How did you get started teaching?
When I was in school ass a girl I was terrible in English. I was probably the worst in the whole school. I was not able to grasp the material like the other children. But I had a good friend that sat down with me. She had a lot of patience to find a way that I could understand as well. Soon, my grades went up and I was extremely grateful to her. As I got older, I saw my Aunt teaching and I was very inspired by her as well. This led me to pursue a career in education. I love to teach, I realize how wonderful it is when knowledge transforms your life and you realize that there is no limt when you have the will to do something .
What types of students have you worked with?
I taught elementary school in a class setting. But I have worked with people across the spectrum. I taught a 75 year old man to read for the first time. I worked with kids that are on the Autism spectrum as well as kids with hyper activity. I find a lot of joy working with a variety of people.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I study with a child who is in 4th grade. He has a stutter and struggles to raise his hand. He is very hungry to learn though. So, through working with him I have been able to see his progress to eventually be confident enough to raise his hand.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When you are looking for a teacher, make sure they are patient.Try to find someone that is invested in your education and wants you to really learn. There are many people that are just doing this for a paycheck and do not really care about you truly understanding the material. So, be sure that you get someone that cares.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1) Why do you want to learn Spanish?
2) What are your goals?
3) Are you really interested in learning Spanish, are you willing to put in the effort?
4) What might hold you back from really learning Spanish?
