Lia's Tutoring
About
Hi, I'm Lia! I am a recent graduate of Claremont McKenna College where I majored in cellular&molecular neuroscience. I am applying to medical school in two years and thus have balanced rigorous coursework, playing basketball in college, and engaging in extracurriculars. This past year, I made the Dean's List (top 15%) and won the Brian Walkenbach Most Outstanding Resident Assistant award. My strength lays in teaching science topics, but I am accustomed to tutoring in English, Spanish (I have advanced Spanish speaking skills), Math, and other subjects involved in a child's curriculum. My recent tutoring experience has varied from working as a TA in science courses (holding tutoring office hours for college students) to working for a non-profit that connected tutors to children ages 5-18 experiencing homelessness.
My passion in teaching has developed with students I work with — I believe that every student should have the opportunity to fair and equitable education, and every child contains the unlocked learning potential to get there. Please reach out if you think there is anything I can help with, and I look forward to meeting you!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for a new student involves significant getting-to-know time. Activities such as ice breakers, questions about hobbies and/or interests, and general conversation are involved. Furthermore, I believe that these interactions go both ways — in order for my student to feel comfortable, I will share with them what they want to know about my hobbies, interests, or other activities outside of tutoring.
