I am a patient and empathetic tutor.
I've used Java since it's introduction in 1995 by Sun Microsystems. I've programmed in Python 15 years.
I've been tutoring Java and Python for 6 years, to college, high school, middle school students as well as working professionals.
The depth and breath of my experience in programming allows me to use numerous alternative paths to bring home fundemental concepts and on target solutions.
Anecdotes from professional experience enrich my lessons. I hope that my sense of humor contributes as well. It always seems to slip into a session.
There are many individuals who helped me achieve success in my career.Paying it forward is my way of recognizing them.
Helping students on their path to mastering "coding" is very exciting and highly rewarding. Seeing that "light bulb" switch on is what it's all about.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students often seek initial help because they have an assignment or project approaching a due date and something has stumped them.
I have these students send me the material so that I can fully acquaint myself with it and measure the level of study they are engaged in. This I do on my own time, without charge to the student.
Then we schedule an online session. Using their own materials as base we start a guided discussion. Sometimes is procedural and other times its conceptual.
When the problem is failure to successfully code a process that the student has thought out, we talk about the structural or syntactical alternatives to what they have tried.
When the issue is one of understanding concepts such as inheritance in Object Oriented Programming, we will seek parallel concepts which the student already understands.
Regardless the approach will be empathetic and patient.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My degree is in Electrical Engineering. I have built numerous real-time software based systems. I've used Java since its introduction by Sun Microsystems in 1996.
Amongst other projects, I've built on-line stock trading systems supporting thousands of concurrent users, an intelligent news filtering service also serving the financial community.
I've earned several certificates in machine learning and Artifical Intelligence from numerous university offerings though Coursera.

My rates run between $32 and $60 per hour session.
One hour is the minimum charge. Time beyond the first hour is billed in 15 minute increments.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the chemistry is good between the two of you. Unlike school, where the teacher/professor is rarely your choice, here it is!
