About
Hello!
I am an experienced and tenured NYS licensed high school teacher, specializing in Regents prep.
I hold dual licenses and a Masters degree in education, but more importantly I truly commit to every student I have. I work with SpED, ELL, and SIFE students from all backgrounds, and pride myself on using creative and engaging methods to help kids retain information — the biggest compliment you could ever pay me is that I make history fun for you. :)
Because of my modified work schedule during this current pandemic, I find myself with a lot of free time during the day. If I could help with your child’s academic progress during that time, it would make me really happy.
First lesson would be free of charge to discuss expectations and see if we are a good fit. Consequent lessons would be $40, but if you are struggling, as we all are in this pandemic, please reach out anyway and I will try to meet you in the middle.
References are of course available upon request, and I hope you are all staying safe.
I love convincing kids that history is interesting! The world we know today is the product of millions of individual decisions stretching back thousands of years - isn't that amazing?! History only repeats if we don't listen -- and for me, having our kids recognize these enduring themes helps them better understand not only the past, but the present too.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Getting to know my students is the most important part of the teaching process for me. I always want students to be comfortable with me and know that they are the captain of our little learning ship! I need to know what motivates them, what discourages them, how they learn best, what makes them feel successful, and what they need to work on. One size never fits all!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a tenured NYS-licensed high school teacher with a MSc in Education and dual licenses in History and English. I specialize in the new Regents exam and history essay writing. I am also currently a teaching fellow with Stanford University.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40/hr; based on the NYCDOE hourly rate, but I appreciate that many parents might be struggling in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. If this is true for you, I would like you to please reach out anyway, and I will do my best to work with you.
How did you get started teaching?
I left an unsatisfying corporate job and jumped headfirst into a profession where I could work closely with blossoming humans. :) Best decision ever.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with high school students of many classifications - ELL, SPED, SIFE, D-75, and I have adored them all!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My students recently have gotten really into creating their own history memes, and they are mindblowingly hilarious and clever :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You (hopefully) know your learning style and what works best for you. If you don't, it's an important thing to think about. Look for a teacher whose philosophy aligns with your learning style. Every teacher, just like every student, is different :) The fact that you are looking for extra help is an extremely positive sign! Good luck with your search.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What makes you feel successful? What topics of history have you found interesting? What have you found boring? What is your one-semester goal, and what is your one year goal?
