Hi! I am a full time biology researcher and experienced science tutor. I have been tutoring high school and college level science for 4 years. I took the new MCAT in 2016 and received a perfect score and have since been tutoring specifically for the MCAT in addition to general science. As a bench scientist, I have a unique understanding of how science is done and where our knowledge base comes from. My students find my logical research based approach both compelling and easier to follow than just memorizing from textbooks. I am a very invested tutor and committed to the unique needs and goals of my students. Through devising thoughtful study plans and thoroughly going through the subject matter, I have empowered my students to achieve their desired results.

I am truly passionate about science and science education and I hope to bring that love and curiosity to my tutoring work. I love that feeling when I can help someone understand the beauty and elegance of a particularly difficult topic and appreciate all the work that has been done to bring us to where we are today. I am very supportive of my students and their goals and honored to help them on their paths.

Sophia tutored me for my MCAT that I took this past January. I found that Sophia was a pleasure to work with. Her passion for tutoring is clearly evident and she is always prepared and enthusiastic to explain topics that you may have difficulty with. What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When meeting a new student, I spend our first session discussing the work they have done so far and their unique strengths and weaknesses. From there, we devise a study plan and choose study materials that would be appropriate for the student's needs. I am always realistic and encourage students to be honest about the time commitment and work they are willing to put in and the results that will emerge.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated from NYU summa cum laude and have since worked in a basic science laboratory for 2.5 years. I took the MCAT in 2016 and received a perfect score. I have been tutoring high school and college science for 4 years and have started tutoring the MCAT for the past year.

Prices start at $70/hour, dependent on frequency of scheduling. I am open to discussing group tutoring rates so you can split costs with someone else as well.
