Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For a new piece ~ We begin by reviewing the writing assignment instructions that they were given to insure that they truly understood all requirements for the piece.
We discuss their viewpoint & if there's a way to inteject some personality into the subject matter at hand or whether this will be a 'nuts & bolts' writing assignment for them.
If we're looking at editing an existing piece then we begin by reviewing grammar, syntax and the fundamentals. Again, a review of the actual writing assignment requirements for context. We look for plagerism and establish whether the piece is just a reguritation of the source material or whether effort was made to go deeper and find a way to interject personality. We also will listen to the piece read aloud. Now, we look to see it it acurately reflects their own voice and, where possible, their viewpoint.
