I ask clarifying questions to find out how much a student knows about a topic. Then I try to engage the student as much as possible in their own work. I try not to do much of the work for the student.
I am always 100% patient and cool as we all were slow to learn something at one time or another.
I am up on my content knowledge having excelled in high school and university and having worked through problem sets such as Schaums Outlines and REA Problem Solvers.
i enjoy sharpening my skills and getting better at my craft by reading advanced books on amazon. So I will work through a book of problems on statistics or coding or advanced calculus and then I am able to impart that knowledge to my students.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask clarifying questions to find out how much the student knows. Then I try to engage the student as much as possible in their own learning. I try not to do a problem or steps for a student. If I do a step I ask "What did I just do" to test for understanding.
