I'm interested in helping a variety of students, from middle school students who need help with their homework, to high school students developing their writing, to college students writing academic papers, to students learning English as a second language.
I enjoy moments where the material "clicks" for the student. Watching students grow is one of the most encouraging things about teaching!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to tailor my teaching to the student. It's most useful when I have samples from my students to help me determine their strengths and places where they can improve. After identifying these areas I can begin giving lessons on the concepts the student will benefit most from learning. This can be basic instruction and explanations, while other times this may warrant exercises and additional materials. I'd rather create worksheets based on my specific student so that material is relatable and appropriate.
I believe that skills are best developed when you practice doing them! You cannot expect to become a good writer if you do not put in the time to write, and you cannot become a good reader without investing in time to read. I try to have my students engage their studies through active participation instead of teaching at them.
My ideal place to tutor is at my local library where my student and I can also pull example resources as well to aid in their learning, depending on their needs. I find that students, especially those in middle school and high school, have a hard time wanting to practice because the material isn't interesting or inspiring to them.

What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked mostly with high school through college aged students. Some students sought to refine their writing while others struggled writing cohesively.
I've also helped quite a few students online who were learning English as a second language. These students were around the intermmediate level, so they were focused on building fluency and understanding school-level English.
