What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I respond to the student's needs. Designing a tutoring plan in accordance to goals that the student sets for themselves is a key feature of my work. I help students establish said goals in the intial meeting and tailor their goals as we continue our work together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked as a tutor and teacher with students between kindergarten and upperclassmen in college for the decade. I have the most experience with adolescents in eighth grade or higher.

How did you get started teaching?
As a writing tutor in college, then as a professor in graduate school. I'm pursuing a career in education, aiming to teach English to 7th - 12th grade.
What types of students have you worked with?
Middle School, High School, and College level students.
Some experience with ESL students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In addition to teaching English, I also teach art at P.S. 45 in the After School Program. Before we were quarantined due to COVID 19, my students were creating portfolios of drawings with COPIC markers, a project that I used as an opportunity to build relationships with my students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Tutoring is a relationships between the tutor and the tutee, and so progress is dependent on a the strength of that relatinonship. Be discerning about your experience with your tutor and give yourself permission to seek out a better fit if the working relationship you have with your present tutor is not as effective as you wish it to be.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It is okay to approach a teacher knowing that you need help but also not having an idea of how a teacher could help you. Just by asking, you are starting a conversation that will help the two of you together identify the specific circumstances of your problem and design a plan of action to address your needs.
