About
Hi, I'm Samantha! I have nearly 25 years of experience teaching piano, voice, guitar, music theory, and music history lessons to learners of all ages. I also have 18 years of experience at the university level and am a published author. I prefer online classes, but I am happy to do in-person lessons if students are within a 2-mile radius of my music studio in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
I have four degrees in music -- one Bachelor's degree in Piano, two Master's degrees in music theory and musicology, and a PhD in musicology. I have attended seminars in piano pedagogy with the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and completed courses in piano pedagogy, accompanying, and creative teaching strategies. I take a modified-traditional approach to teaching, exploring aspects of music history and theory essential for classical playing. I strive to instill a strong love of music into each student, and I follow their interests and formulate benchmarks for success and improvement. I incorporate all genres in my teaching, including classical, jazz, folk, and rock. I love teaching analysis of popular music to music theory students if they are interested.
I am currently working on my MSW and am strongly interested in working with neurodivergent students, particularly those on the autism spectrum. I have had much success blending music therapy and music pedagogy and enjoy teaching students with a range of disabilities.
