Math Tutoring
About
I am a graduate of New York University. I received my Philosophy of Doctorate in Political Science with a focus on quantitative politics and political economy. My thesis has been published in the prominent political economy journal Public Choice in September 2013 . At NYU, I worked both as a research and teaching assistant (TA). In particular, I worked as the TA for the math class for the PhD students and the Head TA for the game theory based international relations core course for undergraduates. Prior to my graduate studies, I had completed my Masters of Arts in Economics as a Fulbright Fellow at Stanford University- where I also worked as a teaching assistant for intermediate level micro-economics for undergraduates- and my Bachelors of Arts in Economics at Bosphorus University of my native country, While I worked as a TA for a range of courses at NYU, I have always been most passionate about mathematics. I love math for its clarity and for all the possibilities it can open to anyone who is versed in this language. I worked as a volunteer Algebra 1 teacher at Baltimore Teaching Residency in Summer 2017. Since Fall 2016, I am working as a math tutor for elementary and mid school students and SAT. Math. I believe having strong math skills and a strong foundation is very important for a student's success at more advanced level math classes and test preparation that comes further down the road. As the pace of math learning at school is steep, many students may find themselves lagging. I strongly believe, intervention to help students get stronger in their math skills at this critical stage is very important. I can also help you with my Masters level (Stanford University) economics knowledge both in micro and macro economics. In my spare time, I enjoy walking in the city, cooking, yoga and find tranquility in the beautiful churches of our wonderful city. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals.
I love teaching in general as I love the bonds I establish with the students. But I particularly love teaching math, as it is wonderful to see the student switch to comprehension stage; and how happy it makes them when they see themselves that they are able to solve the questions themselves. I also love the clarity in math.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by a diagnostic test to get a sense of the student's level and chart out a work schedule.
I start each new topic with an example I solve and give similar questions- medium level questions- as HW for the student to solve on his/her own.
I use exercises from excellent math textbook Algebra: Structure and Method and Khan Academy relevant classes. As the student's level increases, I present harder problems to be solved.
