Math and ELA for 1st-12th grade students

My full name is Christine. So far, I have tutored 13 students (paid one to one tutoring). Under my guidance and my student’s hard work, he/she has been gaining confidence in school and have been performing better in school. My goal as a tutor is to make sure my students are well prepared for exams and understand the concepts, not just forcefully remembering information. In addition, I am very patient with my students, so I have never given up on any of my students.

I have tutored a variety of students:

1. students who need to repeat a grade

2. students with ADHD and Dyslexia

3. students taking a standardized exam: SHSAT, SAT, regents, state exams

4. students who failed a class/ regents

5. students who scored a 2 or 1 on the NY state test

My Education:

Graduated in Queens High School for the Sciences at York College, one of NYC's specalized high schools, with honors and GPA over 95.

I am currently attending SUNY Stony Brook University. I will be graduating in May 2021.

My son started to work with Christine since last fall. I looked for a tutor because my son failed the algebra regents. I also wanted to find a tutor so that he could get an early start on preparing for the SAT. With her help, my son got an 85 on the algebra regents. The grade may not seem excellent, but compared to his original grade on the regents, 85 was massive improvement (almost 20 points). I only paid for 1 hour of tutoring every week. Now, my son has been performing better in 10th grade math (geometry) and has been more confident about math.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to first access the level at which he/she is at. Once I know what the weaknesses are, I will work on strengthening those weaknesses.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am not pursing a degree in education, but I have been tutoring actively for three years. This means that I have had many opportunities to perfect the art of explaning and teaching.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Pricing depends on location, subject, and grade level. The prices starts to get more expensive after 8th grade because their materials start to get more difficult.

What types of students have you worked with?

Students with learning disorder, ADHD, students that have a history of repeating a grade, and students that have failed a class.

I have tutored 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, and 11th grade students.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Work hard because I can't be the only one putting in effort.

Don't stress.

Ask questions!! Don't hesitate.

If not, I'll ask questions. Asking questions and answering questions are good ways to learn.
