Student Tutor
About
Hi! My name is Paul Petrovici and I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University. I have taken multiple introductory mathematics, chemistry, english, writing, and biology courses so far. I graduated last year from the Bronx High School of Science with a 4.0 GPA and have taken 11 AP courses. Additionally, I've averaged a 4 on the AP exams that I've taken. Regarding my experience tutoring, this past year I was given the chance to volunteer and tutor at the Booker T.Washington School. Although limited to middle schoolers, the program taught me invaluable skills. The preparation for the session, the lesson itself, and the interaction with various students truly gave me the ability to become an all-around tutor that will make the time we are given worthwhile.
I believe tutoring is more than just bridging a knowledge gap that may exist. I believe it is an opportunity for a student to truly fall in love with learning the subject. I've had tutors in the past who've neglected this element, simply giving me practice problems to solve and explanations to follow. Yes, this textbook approach may be effective in the short term but it will definitely not hold in the long term. What is needed is tailored, interactive teaching that immerses the student in whatever subject they are studying. This is a guarantee I will bring to every lesson to ensure that we have made the most of our time.
