Ms. Jordan is such a talented instructor; she looks for creative ways to present information, and she is thoughtful to maximize a student’s natural abilities while coaxing forth what is needed.

Jamia is a wonderful teacher. She is very skilled yet patient with working with her students. She is also great at working with various levels at once and makes sure that she meets the needs of every student in the room.
My student has learning disabilities and she made sure not to exclude him from any of the camp activities or treat him any different but instead used his outspoken behavior as a way to create a leader in him.
Weve worked with Ms. Jamia for over 3 years now between dance camps and reading comprehension one on one tutoring sessions and we simply love her!

Frequently asked questions

Create a safe space. A student needs to feel safe before anything else. Create a space that allows the student to feel welcome and comfortable with sharing his/her ideas. Their contribution to each session is valuable and they need to understand the impact that they have.

I would start by introducing myself and asking for them to do the same. I love ice breakers so I would set a few fun ice breakers in place so that we are not simply interviewing one another with questions.

I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher. I love children and I esepcially love seeing youngsters succeed at something they set their mind to.

When I was little I use to "play school" with my little cousins. I would assign each of them classwork and even homework. I had a special binder that I used to collect all of the work and I would later grade their work. My older cousins told me that I would eventually get tired of teaching but I never did.

I went to studied English and Elementary Education in undergrad at the University of Mary Washington and later went on to receive my masters degree in Dance Education at New York University as a 21st century scholarship awardee.

I've taught 1st grade for a year in Virginia before moving to New York and then taught high school dance at KIPP College Prep for three years.

I've worked with students of all ages and various abilities.

How can I figure this out on my own?

Is this something that can challenge me as a learner?
