Nick, The Math And Science Tutor
About
I bring enthusiasm into teaching, often trying to provide examples of real-world applications to the things that students are learning, without motivation, advancement is difficult. I like being challenged and learning new things along the way of tutoring. In order to help a student with their computer science homework, I started doing research and was able to learn basic HTML/CSS and Javascript.
I love conveying knowledge, taking what I know, and making it fun and exciting. Because of my strong background in science and the natural world, I love understanding the way the world works and spreading that knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generation. Certain teachers in my life have inspired me to go into the sciences and teaching because sometimes it can take just one teacher to spark something in a child.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I communicate with the parents to understand what kind of services they would like and what they hope to achieve out of tutoring for their child. I look over the curriculum according to NYS standards and check to see if any information is provided from teachers about objectives and curriculum. Then, speak to the student about what they think they need help with and what topics have been particularly challenging to them.
I believe that communication between parents, students, and teachers is the key in order for a child to succeed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have spent years tutoring and providing help with homework and assignments from kindergarten to the University level providing weekly review sessions for two courses. I am currently enrolled at Stony Brook University where I study Earth and Space Science Education with a concentration in Geology. The program is specifically designed in accordance with the NYS curriculum. The major covers many subjects including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, marine sciences, atmospheric science, and astronomy. This allows me to have a well-rounded understanding of the sciences through many different lenses.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Rates are negotiable, and I would schedule a zoom meeting free of charge to see if you feel like I am the right fit for your child's needs.
How did you get started teaching?
My first jobs were working with children. I come from a family of teachers where my mother is a preschool teacher, and both of my siblings work for the NYC DEO in special education.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all age groups, from kindergarten to the university level. During my time as a tutor and a teacher for summer enrichment programs I have worked with children who have had IEPs, students who lack focus or motivation or simply do not understand the material and need individualized attention who might just need the information presented in a different way.
